UMAR BASHIR MAGASHI (Engr.)

Director, Hydrogeology

Engr. Umar B. Magashi is the Director of Hydrogeology, NIHSA. He hails from Kano State, Nigeria. He had his first school leaving certificate from Gwale Primary School, Kano (1970-1977), attended Federal Government College, Odogbolu in Ogun State (1997-1982) and proceeded to get an IJMB certificate from the College of Arts and Sciences, Kano (1982-1984). He went on to study Exploration Geology at the Technical University, Kosice, Slovak Republic (1986-1992).

Engr. Magashi was first employed by the Kano State Ministry of Water Resources as a Geologist in 1994. He became a Senior Geologist in 1996 and later a Principle Geologist in 1999 before being deployed to the Federal Civil Service. He worked with the Federal Ministry of Water Resources, Abuja from 1999-2009 before being deployed to NIHSA in 2009 where he is to date. He has risen in rank over the years from Principal Hydrogeologist (2000) to Assistant Chief Hydrogeologist (2002) to Chief Hydrogeologist (2005) to Assistant Director Hydrologist/Hydrogeologist (2008) to Deputy Director Hydrologist/Hydrgeologist (2012) to his present position as Director Hydrologist/Hydrogeologist (2016).

He was posted to work with Water Supply and Sanitation Sector Reform Program I (WSSSRP I) as a counterpart staff from 2006-2009. All the reforms in the water sector took place within this time.
