FANFAR: Operational flood forecasting and alerts in West Africa
Flooding is a serious problem in West Africa. Several recent floods have affected millions of people through loss of lives, displacements and damaged infrastructure. Flooding is also projected to increase with climate change. Access to up-to-date forecasts is a critical component in addressing these challenges. FANFAR is an EU-financed project that co-creates an operational flood forecasting and alert pilot system together with 17 countries in the region. The system shows potential, and some countries already use it on a daily basis. Test the system live at www.fanfar.eu
